Running the installer
- Download PerimeteryPRO-x.y.z-Setup.msi.
- Run it and accept the User Account Control prompt. Administrator rights are required.
- The installer places the application in Program Files and creates Start Menu and desktop shortcuts.
- WinPcap 4.1.3 is installed silently as a prerequisite. If a compatible driver is already present this step does nothing.
- Launch Perimetery PRO from the Start Menu.
Why it needs a capture driver
Shaping traffic for other devices requires seeing and acting on packets as they cross the network, which Windows does not expose to ordinary user-mode applications. The bundled WinPcap driver provides that access. It is a long-established component also used by Wireshark and nmap.
This is also why the application must run as administrator every time, not only at install. Without driver access it can start but cannot discover or control devices.
Upgrading
Run the new installer over the top. It upgrades in place and preserves your device policies, which live in devicepolicy.txt beside the executable. Uninstalling does not delete that file, so reinstalling restores your caps and custom names.
